our approach and curriculum

Spanish Immersion

At The Butterfly Academy, Spanish is the target language and the heart of the learning experience. Children are consistently immersed throughout the day—through play, songs, read-alouds, and hands-on activities. Our warm and nurturing native Spanish-speaking teachers use gentle and clear language, helping children feel supported, understood, and confident as they explore a new language. As children grow, the vocabulary naturally evolves, becoming richer and more academic to match their developmental stage.

Our teachers introduce phonological awareness—including syllables, rhyming, and early phonemic skills all grounded in a research-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum. As children engage in these playful, intentional activities, they naturally begin to recognize sounds and sílabas in Spanish, building a strong foundation for bilingual literacy. This language-rich environment is further enhanced with visual supports and print materials, including real-world photos and nonfiction images of numbers, colors, and concepts, which spark curiosity and lay the foundation for early math and science skills.

What Sets Us Apart

At The Butterfly Academy, we take pride in our deep experience and passion for early childhood Spanish immersion. Our classrooms are intentionally designed to nurture language and literacy development. From cozy reading corners and dramatic play spaces to calming areas and thematic learning units, every detail is thoughtfully chosen to support communication, exploration, and growth.

Throughout the year, we celebrate Hispanic culture with immersive experiences that honor language, traditions, and community. Cultural activities, music, and art are woven into the daily routine, while dishes like fideo and arroz con leche connect children to the rich culinary traditions of the Spanish-speaking world. This culturally rich environment supports not only language development but also a deep sense of belonging and appreciation for diversity.
